These past two months have flown by! I love spending all my days with these cuties, not so much the nights ;). Here is what has been going on these last 8 weeks.
Mason has had a tough go at life so far. He was born with a heart murmur that scared the crap out of Cody and me. I know this is a common thing that happens and a lot of people are born with a murmur they don’t even know about but that’s my baby! They will usually close up on their own after a couple days but Mason’s didn’t. So he was referred to a cardiologist at Helen Devos Children’s Hospital. It was very emotionally draining for us to watch our tiny boy getting hooked up to machines and being observed on ultrasounds. He was also struggling to eat/latch on to a bottle, which we found out could be a sign of a hole in his heart. Mason has always just seemed like he was in pain or uncomfortable (lots of crying and back arching) and we didn’t know what to do. So, the results of all his testing confirmed that he does a have a hole in his heart which will HOPEFULLY close up soon! They said that it shouldn’t affect his everyday life… unless he wants to go deep sea diving ;). If he is anything like his mama, that won’t be happening. This was a huge relief for us to find out. We will know if his hole has closed up in January when we go back for his check-up.
Back to the feedings… we have tried two different bottles, different pacifiers, gas drops, gentle formula, soy formula, probiotics, gripe water, and finally the medication Zantac (for reflux). It has been a long eight weeks of testing what works best. I think we have come to the conclusion that he has colic and there isn’t much we can do for him. However, he is swallowing his food better with the help of some rice cereal! Yay! Some of Mason’s favorite things include being held, laying on his stomach, his big sister Kasey singing to him, and puking. He has already rolled over, he smiles (it can literally bring me to tears it’s so cute!!!), his neck strength is unreal and he weighs 10lbs 4oz.
Now onto my littlest little. Harpie, Harp or simply ‘my baby’. She is the BEST baby in the entire universe. Which is such a blessing since Mase often gives us a hard time :). I couldn’t imagine having TWO of him. I don’t even need to write two paragraphs for her because she hasn’t had any issues yet. When Mase cries he sounds like a dying duck but her cry is so adorable, it’s almost like a fake cry. Harper loves to just chill out in her swing or bouncy seat, cuddling, eating and sleeping. One thing she doesn’t like is tummy time. She is weighing in at 10lbs 8oz and also has the most adorable smile ever.
They both received their first set of vaccinations today, which might possibly be the saddest day for any parent! We are all taking a ‘rest’ day after that. 🙂
PSA: VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN PEOPLE!
“PSA: VACCINATE YOUR CHILDREN PEOPLE!” Haha, yes!! 😂👊
Sorry to hear about all the struggles with Mason! I don’t know how you do it girl with 4 🙈 do the girls help a lot?
Haha! I literally don’t understand why people wouldn’t!?
He’s doing much better thankfully 🙂 the girls are huge helps! I think I’d lose my mind if they were toddlers. I’m glad there is a 7.5 year gap between them.
