life with two sets of twins

dating my husband | january

January 25, 2019

This year we wanted to change some things in our relationship. We were stuck in a rut. We were roommates, not husband and wife. Our life revolved around taking care of the kids and work. Our marriage took the backseat to everything. We were arguing more and more often and not enjoying our time together. I believe that we were at the crossroads… we were either going to fix what was wrong or end the relationship.

We knew we loved each other A LOT, that wasn’t even a question. so we decided to fix the problem. We started couples counseling and learned so much about each other in just five sessions then we did in the nine years we’ve been together. I talk more about how counseling changed our lives in this vlog – HERE.

With all that being said, we decided to put our marriage first this year. We sat down and thought of fun date nights we could do each month. Our therapist encouraged us to try things we’ve never done before, so we incorporated a lot of new things! We planned our January date right away and looked forward to it all month long. I’m going to be sharing our monthly date nights here on the blog. I want to be able to go back and remember all the details and how much fun we had planning, anticipating and enjoying our nights alone.

We’ve never had couples massages and Cody had never had a massage period! We booked a relaxing massage and then dinner at a hibachi restaurant. Hibachi has a special meaning to us because NINE years ago this month, he asked me to be his girlfriend at a hibachi restaurant, which was our first “real” date. We hadn’t been back since that day – so we thought of it as restarting our relationship from the beginning. We also picked up some Nothing Bundt Cake (my fav) to bring back home for dessert. We ate it while watching Game of Thrones on the couch. It was so relaxing and we had such a good time.

Cody also surprised me with an Alex and Ani bracelet, which I love so much. I’ll wear it and always remember the beginning of our best year.

Stay tuned for the next 11 dates in this series! We already have our February date booked, so the anticipation begins!

Just uploaded a “tween” girl gift idea vlog. I Just uploaded a “tween” girl gift idea vlog. It’s everything they got for their birthdays and Christmas in December. It’s honestly such a hard age to buy for but I’m thankful they are at least girls - that makes it easier. Boys are the worst to shop for in my opinion. 😂 I decided to post a little photo of their room because we never really see this area of my house! They have the entire basement to themselves! 💕 #tweengirls
