I’m sitting here watching Trolls, literally reciting LINE FOR LINE because I’ve watched it every day for the past eleven years (or so it feels) and listening to my husband snore on the couch. Mom life is the best life – haha! I’m feeling happy and blessed, so I thought I’d write this post right now and share my fun day.
To be fair, Cody works tonight so the nap is needed but we got home from our March date a few hours ago! It was actually scheduled for earlier in the week but I had the stomach flu so we had to reschedule. This month we decided to go to Dave and Busters! We had a gift card and we’ve both never been, so we wanted to try it out.

Talk about an amped up Chuck E. Cheese – except the games were 10x better and a full bar? Ok. My kind of place! We grabbed some beers and walked around playing games the first half. I beat Cody in most of the games, which is shocking because I lose at pretty much everything. He’s going to read this post and say “no you didn’t!” but he’s a sore loser. 😉 I totally did babe!
After that we ate some food (which was typical bar food.. nothing special) and had a couple more drinks. That’s pretty much it! I mean, I dragged him to the book store afterwards but that’s it. We were gone for THREE hours. Not every date has to be some extremely planned out full day. We had so much fun spending the short three hours with each other and playing games.
Sadly, he has to work tonight or else we would probably put the kids to bed and watch a couple movies too. It was a fun day for us! I hope we are inspiring you to schedule alone time with each other every month. It has been so important in our marriage, especially when we are constantly surrounded my tiny humans. We are always thinking of new stuff to do and adding it to our “date night list”. We already planned a full weekend date for October!
I found something floating around online the other day and LOVED it. I wanted to share it with you guys too. It’s call the 2/2/2 rule.
Every 2 weeks, go out for the evening
Every 2 months, go out for a weekend
Every 2 years, go out for a week
Although we haven’t completely followed this our entire marriage, or even currently, I think the basic idea of it is so so good. Date your spouse!!
