I think moms have mixed emotions about the first day back to school. It’s either the most gloriest (is that even a word?) of days or the saddest. This year I am a pretty good mixture of both. Now that my grocery bill will significantly go down and I won’t have to break up 12 girl fights a day, I’m pretty happy. On the other hand, McKenzie and Kasey help me out a lot with the new babies. They know when to put their pacifiers back in or even calm them down by singing! 🙂 I need my helpers!!!
But really, back to school time always seems like competition of the moms. There are those moms that are the leader of six school clubs, PTA, volunteer at every school function and still work a full time job. That my friends, is NOT me. I’m here to tell you that being an “okay” mom is perfectly fine too. My children do not get a healthy nutritious breakfast every day. They eat a bowl of sugary cereal because I’m too tired to cook anything. They sometimes don’t turn in their homework on time because I totally forget they have any. When the signup sheet comes around to volunteer to read to their classrooms, I steer clear of that. Who actually WANTS to do that?? What’s important is that I’m there for my kids when they need me. I like to say we are just surviving over here. I’m trying not to drown myself in laundry or dishes but I don’t clean the toilets or vacuum as often as I should. I sometimes felt “lesser” when I would go to the bus stop in pajama pants and oversized t-shirts, standing next to other parents whose hair is done up nicely and wearing their put together outfits. Then one day I just realized that I take care of FOUR kids, two of which are newborns and that job might not require pinstripe pants but it’s a HARD ass job. I’m exhausted 80% of the time and yeah making Pinterest crafts and serving homemade meals every night sounds like a good idea… that is just not reality. At least not for my family. Once I figured out that being an “okay” mom is good enough, I became a much happier person.
On a side note, I decided that I’m going to do something for ME this school year. I started a weight loss challenge group today! Ha, stayed tuned for more of that… 😉
Big thumb up to you! =)
