The need for this months date night was EXTREME. It’s summer and sometimes having two tween girls and and two toddlers at the same time can be exhausting. At least ONE of the four is always crying, they are always fighting and basically driving me insane! I couldn’t wait to run out of the house last night!
Our original babysitter fell through last minute. Luckily Cody’s mom came to the rescue – perks of being neighbors. I probably would have had a break down if no one could babysit!
This month we decided to go out to dinner at the CUTEST little restaurant in downtown Grand Rapids. The entire place has a cozy 70s vibe and the food is absolutely amazing. Definitely check out The Commons if you’re in the area!
Locals: make sure you try the Mexican street corn Mac N cheese and their burger/fries are one of the bests I’ve ever had!
After dinner we went to AJ’s Family Fun Center and played a game of mini golf (which I won!) and rode go-karts! I haven’t done either of those things since I was probably 10 – it was so fun! You wouldn’t believe how many other people were on dates there, so it’s not just a kids place. 😉
Don’t tell anyone… but we vandalized the place. Don’t worry, so did thousands of other people. That was also Cody’s attempt at making the deathly hallows symbol if you’re wondering what the triangle is – haha.
After we did that, we drove around and played Harry Potter Go. We are both so addicted to this game right now (so nerdy I know) but it’s fun to play together!! We also stopped and grabbed some shakes for the drive home.
It was getting close to the end of the month and I didn’t know if we’d be able to pull off a date for this month. It’s harder than it seems! We did it and I’m so glad!
Make it work guys! If we can get away from our 4 children once a month – you can too! You might not think you need a date night every month, but trust me.. you do. It’s good for the soul. If money is an issue there are so many ideas that are low cost or even free! Here are the ones I thought of:
- a bike ride to a park, pack a lunch and have a picnic
- put the kids to bed, have a bonfire, make some smores, have some drinks
- board game night, order pizza
- camp out in the living room and watch scary movies
- drink wine, prepare and cook a new recipe together, maybe turn it into a cooking challenge
- sit down and make a dream board or bucket list together
- go to the beach, kid-free
All of these sound so fun to me! Make sure when you’re on the date, put your phones away and put all your attention into your partner. I sound like a couples therapist now.
