It’s no secret that I LOVE holidays and I LOVE reading. So, McKenzie and Kasey have a slew of books for each holiday. At the beginning of October I pull out all our “fall” themed books. I try to read them one each night (twin babies permitting). We all share a love for Halloween so those seem to be our favorite ones to read. Although M & K have moved on to chapter books since they are “big” 2nd graders, we still love a good children’s book every now and then.
Children’s books are so pricey!! When we make our trips to Barnes & Noble I am always blown away that one book can be $20.00. What?? So I have made it a habit to look at every garage sale, Goodwill, and thrift stores for cheap books. I have also noticed that if you order from the kids scholastic book magazines they are cheaper than the stores. We have accumulated quite the collection over the years and would love to share with you ๐
Well, with M & K’s help we have put together a list of our top five favorite fall reads!
1. Amelia Bedelia’s First Apple Pie by Herman Parish
Amelia Bedelia is a classic book character for children. The girls have always loved her books and this fall themed one is no different.
2. Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman
I actually remember being read this book when I was in daycare as a child. The illustrations are beautiful and it has awesome characters.
3. There’s a Nightmare in my Closet by Mercer Mayer
This is a quick and easy read but definitely a cute story! Who doesn’t love Mercer Mayer?
4. The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Steven Kroll
This story has been around since the 80’s and we love it! It is the longest out of all our fall books so the girls like it if they want to stay up a few extra minutes ๐
5. The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams
This a SUCH a good children’s book! The girls like to yell out what comes next. They probably have it memorized by now.
Please leave any other favorite fall books in the comments! We would love to check them out ๐
